A Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Suit Creation Feature Would Be a Game-Changer

While there is no telling if Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will actually get a suit creation mechanic, it has the potential to be a massive hit with fans.

Though there is a good bit of discussion around the heroes and villains that will be featured in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the majority of posts about the upcoming game have to deal with its possible costumes. Fans are constantly making requests for the attires that they want to see, with these suggestions ranging from comic-inspired outfits like Arachknight to MCU-specific suits like Tom Holland’s final No Way Home costume.

With so many suit requests being made, and many of the demands being for obscure looks, there is a good chance that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will leave out some outfits that fans might have wanted. However, while Insomniac Games only has the time and resources to create a certain number of suits, a costume creation mechanic would allow the community to make and share popular designs that are missing from the upcoming game.

It only takes one look at the communities for Destiny 2, Red Dead Online, and other major titles to realize how huge in-game fashion can be. For those games and many others, players are constantly sharing unique looks with the community, allowing fans to praise and copy their designs. This serves as free publicity for these games, and it motivates players to keep engaging with the titles even when they have played all the other content available to them.

In the case of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker could have the perfect place to make some suits for himself and his fellow crimefighter Miles Morales. With Otto Octavius defeated, Doc Ock’s lab is now vacant and up for grabs, and Peter could use the location to make his own suits. If a fabricator is present inside the lab, players could piece together their own costumes by mixing and matching parts of other suits that they have unlocked. While this could be done through a menu, a similar visual style to the Far From Home scene where Peter makes his own suit could be present.

Insomniac Games could allow players to swap the eyes, spider symbols, and other details of their unlocked costumes around, providing a great place to get started with suit creation. Even if this was the full extent of the feature, throwing the Raimi suit’s eyes on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 costume would instantly make for a very different-looking costume. The same could be said for the Scarlet Spider jacket or the Bodega Cat backpack, with a lot of opportunities being open to players.

As suggested by other players that have pushed for suit creation in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the mechanic could give players some thrilling rewards to hunt down. Each collectible could provide a new suit color or pattern, letting players have access to textures that mimic latex or armor. Some of these unlocks could be tied to full completion of certain activities, while defeating a specific boss could unlock a pattern based on the villain’s costume.

By combining unlockable textures, colors, and patterns with the option to mix and match certain parts, players could be crafting suits for years after release. Any new Spider-Man suit that appears in the comics or movies can find its way to the games, not through an official release but via a fan-made design. If the mechanic is complex enough, a fashion-focused community could be established, standing comfortably alongside those that love sharing photos from the Marvel’s Spider-Man games. Such a feature would be great for the longevity of the game and the series as a whole, and hopefully it becomes a reality.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release in 2023 on PS5.
