Spoiler alert: When a gorgeous model like Hailey Clauson poses with no makeup, she still looks like a gorgeous model.
Nevertheless, it’s helpful to be reminded how much airbrushing, styling, and photoshopping are regularly applied to the world’s most beautiful people! Clauson, who is featured in the 2022 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, posted an unusually candid, makeup-free selfie on Instagram in 2020.
In the unfiltered, post-workout picture, there are some visible pimples on her high cheekbones, and her famous lips seem to be smirking at her stretched-out Grateful Dead shirt and greasy hair.

“When I’m at home I have my hair in a top knot and wear a big T shirt. I have acne some days,” Clauson wrote in the caption. “Don’t get caught up in the false realities of ideal beauty standards on social media. Focus on how you feel mentally and physically, that will radiate your true beauty from within.”
The model had previously shared a makeup-free selfie on Twitter in 2016, encouraging followers to “love your beautiful selves.”

Most of the time, Clauson appears in professionally retouched photos with full makeup, looking picture-perfect. However, she has admitted that the process of getting those photos doesn’t always match the fantasy. Speaking with PopSugar about her swimsuit shoots, Clauson confessed, “They’re long days. There are extreme weather conditions… But at this point, I’m so used to it that it doesn’t phase me anymore.”
She also told PopSugar that her preferred makeup regime offset is a “no-makeup makeup look,” which includes natural-looking contouring, blush, and brown eyeshadow. For lipstick, she told Into the Gloss that she alternates between nude and red shades, and also uses Rosebud Salve lip balm.

To keep her skin fresh, Clauson is a fan of face masks. In a Harpers Bazaar interview, she revealed that she always takes a face mask on flights, so that she can put it on as soon as she gets to her hotel. The model told Into the Gloss that she particularly loves the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask and the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask.
As for her personal style, Clauson told Harper’s Bazaar that she never goes anywhere without her crocodile mini backpack. She also has a favorite white leather jacket, and for special occasions, loves to wear “a simple black dress that you could wear again and again with different accessories.”
