On Tuesday, 31 Backpacks had a dozen volunteers helping out at the Good News Conference of the Church of God in Hancock. Before the big packaging, they quickly unloaded the last batch of goods delivered to the organization from the food bank and the Louis Fresh Market in Linden Lake.

Starting Sunday afternoon, all these raw materials will be sorted and ready for Monday night, when food and toiletries for 16 days will be ready to be sent home with the unfortunate students from the entire Copper Country Intermediate School District. On Tuesday morning, the bus driver will pick up the goods, and the administrators of each school will distribute the luggage at their location.

Melissa Maki said why hard work is so important.

31 Backpacks provide the same services on weekends to children participating in the program throughout the school year. To ensure anonymity, they do not know who received their package. The organization only has information about the age of the child and any allergies that may be present. They have a color-coded classification system to adjust these factors.

Maki said it was easy to help. Right there.

Once the school reopens, the weekly package often happens on Wednesday night. Volunteers are also very grateful to these people, especially when students at Michigan Tech and Finlandia are unable to attend classes, such as during the week of carnival or spring break.
