The Castle on the Coast, the world's first video game developed specifically for children's hospitals, was announced today. It comes from Klabater, Valley Children's Hospital and Big Heart Productions. This 3D platform game starring George Giraffe, the official mascot of the California Valley Children's Hospital, uses video game adventures to raise funds for Valley Children's Healthcare.

In this hand-painted 3D game, George must travel through difficult levels full of crystal tunnels, passages full of stones, and strange parallel fields, while trying to reconcile the families of two powerful and hateful wizards.

For seven years, George has represented the compassion and care provided by Valley Children's. The giraffe was "adopted" by the five founding mothers as a hospital logo because they have the largest heart of all land mammals. Every day, the care provided by Valley Children's reflects this.

After countless meetings, ideas and suggestions, the collaboration between Valley Children's, Big Heart Productions, and Klabater finally came to fruition, culminating in the premiere of this popular mascot in a video game.

According to research and testimony, video games provide therapeutic benefits as a technology to boost mood, reduce pain, and improve the health outcomes of rehabilitation pediatric patients. Healthcare practitioners recognize that the healing power of video games is complementary to standard treatments and can help recover from serious illnesses. Not only that, in an unusual and challenging year like 2020, video games have become a partner for many children in the face of social alienation.

Coastal Castle includes a cooperative mode, in which the second player can play the role of George's squirrel partner Swirlz. Swirlz is sitting in George's backpack in the game and needs to focus on shooting objects. The cooperation mode is specially designed for Valley Children's children under 6 years old and children who may have disabilities and have difficulty operating the controller.

"This video game is the first of its kind in the country’s children’s hospital. It’s another way we can bring fun to the lives of the children we see. Now, children all over the world can help George Pass through coastal castles," said Todd Suntrapak, President and CEO of Valley Children's Healthcare.

Coastal Castle will be available on Nintendo Switch and PC on December 2, 2021 for $14.99 on Steam worldwide. If you buy the game on Cyber Monday, you will get a 10% pre-order discount, including a portion of the proceeds that will benefit Valley Children's Hospital, which provides children from infancy to adolescence with the only high-quality comprehensive in Central California Care.
