A “Hail Skatin” fundraiser is on tap this Saturday, Aug. 13, to raise money for rebuilding the Silverado Skatepark. The ASK (Action Sports Kids) Foundation is spearheading the effort to recreate the only skatepark on Long Beach’s west side. This event, at 2 p.m. at Alex’s Bar, 2913 E. Anaheim St., will include live music, prize drawings, skateboarding and more. Go to alexsbar.com.

Static Salon, 2019, 2310 N Bellflower Blvd # 103, is conducting a school supplies drive, looking for all forms of supplies, from erasers to backpacks. Donate a backpack full of supplies and get a $25 credit on your next appointment. A giveaway for children will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at the salon.

A Casino Night will celebrate the Friends of Long Beach Animals’ (FOLBA) 33rd anniversary on Friday, Aug. 26 at the Modern event center, 2801 E. Spring St. There will be food and drink, blackjack, craps, poker, roulette, a DJ, dancing and a fundraising silent auction. Tickets start at $50. A benefit concert of Hawaiian music at Grace First Presbyterian Church will raise money to provide clean water to people in Peru. The 19th annual Grape Expectations benefiting the Long Beach Library Foundation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Hotel Maya. The Conservation Corps of Long Beach has started their annual fundraiser. The corps offers scholarships, training and support services to help members to succeed and pursue post-secondary education goals. Go to www.cclb.-corps.org.

Meals on Wheels, which has helped those in need in Long Beach for more than 50 years, is dealing with substantial increases in operating costs and numbers of clients. Since 2020, there has been a 50% increase in those needing assistance. They’re asking for help from the community to continue their good works. Go to www.mowlb.org.

The Salvation Army is accepting non-monetary donations including canned food, vegetables, beans, pasta, cereal, small oatmeal packages and more from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays in front of the food bank at 3092 Long Beach Blvd.
