WHEELING — Zach Zdonczyk wants to give Ohio Valley residents a high-quality experience when they sit in the barber’s chair. His new shop, Luxury Lifestyle Grooming Lounge, is opening its doors and he wants to get to know the community and help some of its children get ready to return to school.

Zdonczyk will hold a back-to-school cookout and backpack giveaway at Luxury Lifestyle Grooming Lounge, located at 586 National Road in Wheeling’s Fulton neighborhood, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

While he won’t be doing any haircuts during the event, people can come in for hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and soft drinks and children can pick out new backpacks with school supplies as those supplies last. Zdonczyk said he wanted to take the time today to learn a little more about the people in the neighborhood.

Zdonczyk isn’t new to the region. He grew up in the Ohio Valley and has returned to see family many times. He came up from Atlanta in March to give free haircuts at the Textured Hair Expo at Bridge Street Middle School.

Ultimately, he said, he wanted to return for good, not just to get closer to family, but to offer his styling skills to this community.

“I’ve seen the growth in Wheeling when I’ve visited,” he said. “People are used to coming in, getting a trim and going. I wanted to bring more than that. I want to give them a more comfortable experience,” he added. “We’re there to build a much better rapport for the clientele, for them to think, when I walk in the door, my hour with you is all about me.”

For now, Zdonczyk and business partner Luke Steed will focus on haircuts and shaves, providing intricate styles and designs for customers. Zdonczyk hopes to branch out in the future, perhaps to facials and, for women, eyelash and nail treatments.

Travis Broadwater of Broadwater Properties and Jen Stricklin of Posh Hair and Nail Studio have helped in donating school supplies, Zdonczyk said.

“I’m just trying to meet some new people and, along the way, help anybody out who maybe can’t afford to get all those school supplies right now,” he said.

Luxury Lifestyle’s operating hours will be 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
