A Marvel's Spider-Man player has spotted a unique detail on the game's Spider-Punk suit, and it's a callback to the Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in game.

A Marvel’s Spider-Man player has spotted an amazing detail on the game’s Spider-Punk costume, which serves as a callback to one of the game’s best backpack Easter eggs. Although originally a PlayStation exclusive, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is set to release on PC this August, which has led to some players revisiting the title yet again, with some players picking up on Easter eggs and secrets they had previously missed.

Marvel’s Spider-Man features almost 30 different costumes for players to unlock and equip Peter Parker with, with designs taken from both the comics and the multiple live-action appearances the wall-crawler has made over the previous two decades. Although Insomniac missed some costumes in Marvel’s Spider-Man, the studio’s first Marvel game still features a great selection of outfits for players to choose from. All the classics are there, bar the black symbiote costume, which is expected to feature in the Venom-focused follow-up, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

All of the suits featured in Marvel’s Spider-Man are full of detail, and Reddit user mososaurus-rex has shared a particularly cool one from the Spider-Punk suit. While zooming in with the game’s photo mode, mososaurus-rex discovered that one of the pins on the Spider-Punk suit (which is based on the version of Spider-Man from Earth-138) is the same drawing of Spidey rescuing a child’s balloon that features in Marvel's Spider-Man's worldbuilding collectible backpacks. Said backpack collectible is a reference to the original Spider-Man 2 movie tie-in game, which saw Peter helping out the citizens of New York by stopping petty crimes or rescuing them from perilous situations. One such activity involved retrieving balloons that had escaped a given child’s grasp and returning it to them. This particular activity - similar to Spider-Man 2’s pizza delivery missions - has taken on meme status in the years since the game’s release, thanks in part to the comically loud child dialogue that accompanied the balloon-retrieval process.

Marvel’s Spider-Man features plenty of callbacks to the comics, but also to other Spidey interpretations. The Raimi games are no exception, and the balloon drawing players can find as a backpack and on Marvel's Spider-Man's Spider-Punk costume option isn’t the only one hiding in New York. If players listen closely while standing by one of the game’s pizzerias, they should be able to hear the pizza delivery music from the original Spider-Man 2 game coming from inside.

Although only slight nods, these two Easter eggs serve as an example of not only Insomniac’s devotion to the web-slinger - as Marvel’s Spider-Man was a true labor of love for the character - but also of how influential the original Spider-Man 2 game was as well. Treyarch’s 2004 tie-in was the first proper open-world Spider-Man game, and most other titles that have followed it have all taken from its blueprint - including the maps of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. It’s nice to see it affectionately referenced in Marvel’s Spider-Man, and its place on the game’s Spider-Punk suit is the perfect touch to acknowledge the wall-crawler’s gaming history.
