Old Rochester Students Abandon Backpacks for Stranger Things

If you were one of the people driving on Route 6 in Mattapoisett Wednesday morning, you may have done a double take as you drove past Old Rochester Regional High School.

If something seemed a little off as you saw the students piling into the Tri-town high school, your instincts were on the money.

At first glance, it might not have seemed obvious, but the students were walking into the school without the weight of backpacks sitting on their shoulders.

A backpack is virtually part of a student's body these days, but not this day at ORR. It was all part of spirit week, and we give the Bulldogs credit for coming up with such an original idea. We've all seen schools do the pajama day thing, or school colors thing, but "Anything But a Backpack Day" might take the cake for most entertaining.

Students from all grades left their backpacks home in favor of some of the weirdest, silliest and most inconvenient methods of transporting books and all of the other things that might be found in a backpack.

Sure, a milk crate or a rolling suitcase are funny, but some of the ideas from Old Rochester were hilarious.

We saw a couple of students packing up beach coolers. One of the coolers had the convenience of wheels, while the other was so old-school it was made before civilization figured out beach coolers should even be on wheels.

You can see a gallery of the students' creativity below.
