A Pittsburgh man was sentenced to probation after confessing to leaving a bag of explosives in the city center after riots swept the streets last year.

The U.S. Department of Justice stated that 53-year-old Matthew Michanowicz left a camouflage backpack in downtown Pittsburgh, which was illegally filled with "homemade destructive devices." According to the authorities, the bag was planted in PNC Plaza on or around May 31 last year.

The Mississippi on death row made a surprising confession before execution

According to the police, Michanowicz approached PNC Plaza by bicycle before stopping in the area. Police said Michanowicz looked around before entering the bushes and planting the bag.

Michanowicz claimed that he was investigating the losses caused by the recent riots in the city in the area, but did not admit to placing bags and possessing improvised weapons, despite the photo and video evidence.

Michanowicz was sentenced to 18 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release. He will be kept at home for the first 180 days.

The Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pittsburgh Police Department and the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office all participated in the investigation.

After the murder of George Floyd last year, Pittsburgh experienced the worst riots in decades.

About 44 thugs were arrested and 4 policemen were hospitalized. A mob of at least 1,000 people set fire to two police cars. The police imposed a curfew from 8.30pm to 6am on weekends to curb the protests.
